Reference Emission Level

Definition

A performance benchmark against which current and future emissions reductions can be measured throughout a predetermined timeframe. Where such emissions reductions are deemed ‘additional’, this may be potentially rewarded under REDD+. Reference emission levels can be set at regional or national scales, or can apply to a project area.
