Long-term Certified Emission Reductions

Definition

A unit of greenhouse gas reduction that has been generated under the Clean Development Mechanism specifically issued for emission removals from afforestation and reforestation projects. lCERs are valid for use as carbon offsets by contracted parties until the end of the project crediting period, unlike temporary (tCERs), which expire at the end of the commitment period in which they were issued. This unit is equal to one metric ton of carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e).
