Removal Units

A unit of greenhouse gas reduction generated by activities relating to LULUCF, and specifically referring to projects developed under the ‘Joint Implementation’ mechanism of the Kyoto Protocol. RMUs are converted into ‘emission reduction units’ which can be traded and used by Annex I parties to meet their emissions reduction commitments.
