Women Organizing for Change in Agriculture and Natural Resource Management
Summary
Women Organizing for Change in Agriculture and Natural Resource Management (WOCAN) is a women-led international membership network of members of male and female professionals. WOCAN provides expertise to agriculture and natural resource management organisations to help them strengthen the leadership of women and the integration of gender considerations into their structures, policies, programmes and projects.
WOCAN was established in 2004 to address three gaps emerging from the knowledge and experiences of sustainable and rural development processes: policies regarding gender within the sectors of agriculture and natural resource management; the roles of professional women in implementing policy objectives for the empowerment of rural women and gender equality in these sectors; and, organisational barriers that obstruct women from adopting leadership roles.
