Summary

The Environmental Protection Agency, which is under the Ministry of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation (MESTI), is the leading public body for environmental protection in Ghana. Its objectives include the mainstreaming of environmental considerations into the development process at the national, regional, district and community levels. It thereby aims to ensure that the implementation of environmental policy and planning is integrated and consistent with the country’s desire for effective, long-term maintenance of environmental quality, ensuring environmentally sound and efficient use of both renewable and non-renewable resources in the process of national development.The Environmental Protection Agency was actively involved in the formulation of the Readiness Preparation Proposal (R-PP) annexes and is one of the members of the National REDD Plus steering Committee.
