Summary

CIFOR is a not-for-profit, global research facility, which aims to advancing human well-being, environmental conservation and equity. CIFOR conducts research with the aim of promoting more informed and equitable decision making about the use and management of forests in less-developed countries.

CIFOR's research and analysis supports policy makers and practitioners world-wide to shape effective policy, improve the management of tropical forests and address the needs and perspectives of local people depending on forests for their livelihoods. In light of the the underlying drivers of deforestation and degradation, which often lie outside the forestry sector, CIFOR adopts a multidisciplinary approach.

CIFOR's head office is in Bogor, Indonesia, and it has regional offices in Central Africa (Cameroon), West Africa (Burkino Faso), and Eastern and Southern Africa (Kenya), and project offices in Brazil, Ethiopia, Peru, Vietnam, and Zambia.
