The deforestation rate between 2002 and 2008 is estimated at about 4% in the vicinity of the NPA, mostly in the form of illegal logging and shifting cultivation. The REDD+ Pilot Project will include: a forest data assesment; improvement of protected area management; improvement and generation of alternative income; connection of corridors and assurance of long term financing.
