REDD Experiences in Latin America: Lessons Learned at the Project Level
This report examines Peru's approach to tropical forest management, concentrating on the case of brazil nut harvesters and the success of the Tambopata National Reserve and Bahuaja Sonene National Park protected areas. Each is examined in terms of project activity, legal issues, additionality and markets. The report concludes that the Government must focus on creating the conditions to allow small landowners to access REDD opportunities, to monitor leakage and ensure that baseline scenarios are adequately measured. Coordination between public and private players is necessary to avoid methodological issues.
