Summary

The MB-REDD project, in collaboration with REAP has developed participatory planning methods for subnational (jurisdictional) programmatic REDD+ applications.  Participatory Subnational Planning (PSP) is a comprehensive, yet cost-effective approach to identifying: drivers of deforestation and forest degradation; interventions to address these drivers; environmental and social benefits/risks of these interventions; and indicators and monitoring plans.

PSP has recently been being tested in Vietnam, under the UN-REDD Programme, as the core participatory process to develop Provincial REDD+ Action Plans, which will operationalise the National REDD+ Action Programme. More user-friendly manuals are scheduled for production in 2015, after experiences and lessons from piloting can inform methodological refinement.

The PSP methods are outputs of the project ‘Delivering Multiple Benefits from REDD+ in Southeast Asia’ (MB-REDD), implemented by SNV Netherlands Development Organisation. The MB-REDD project is part of the International Climate Initiative, supported by the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Building and Nuclear Safety (BMUB).
