Temporary Certified Emission Reductions

Definition

A unit of greenhouse gas reduction that has been generated under the Clean Development Mechanism specifically issued for emission removals from afforestation and reforestation projects. tCERs are valid for use as carbon offsets by contracted parties for a specific commitment period and expire at the end of the commitment period following the one in which they are issued. This unit is equal to one metric ton of carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e).
