Vietnam's Forests and Deltas Programme

This programme is being implemented as part of the SNV REDD+ Programme, and is being implemented jointly by the SNV Netherlands Development Organisation, Winrock International, the American Red Cross and Sustainable Rural Development (SRD).

It aims to facilitate Viet Nam's transition to a climate resilient, low emissions development pathway through activities in Viet Nam's delta region. It aims to accelerate investments in reducing emissions from forests and enhance social and physical resilience to the short and long-term effects of climate change.

The project aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions through improved forest management and afforestation together with investment in promoting climate resilient livelihoods. Training programmes within provinces aim to demonstrate methods for achieving measurable improvements in carbon stocks and environmental services as well as leveraging ecosystem service financing. The programme aims to invest in demonstration activities and capacity building at the district and provincial levels, and share lessons learned with the aim of informing the development and implementation of national policies. The provinces of Thanh Hoa and Nghe An have been selected as pilots for moving strategies and policy into practice through innovative land-use planning that is inclusive of local government, civil society, and the private sector.
