National Forest Conservation Programme for Mitigation against Climate Change (Peru)

Initiative

Summary

The National Forest Conservation Programme for Mitigation against Climate Change aims to conserve 54 million hectares of tropical forests to mitigate climate change and contribute to sustainable development. It has four specific objectives, namely to achieve zero net deforestation by 2020, to identify and map areas for forest conservation, to promote sustainable production systems, and to strengthen capacities of the different relevant actors in relation to conservation.

The programme is being financed by Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the Hatoyama Initiative (Fast Start Finance) of the Government of Japan.
