Ministry of Environment, Nature Protection and Sustainable Development (Cameroon)
In 2004, Cameroon's Ministry of Forests and Environment (MINEF) was divided into the Ministry of Forests and Wildlife (MINFOF) and the Ministry of Environment and Nature Protection (MINEP). This division created institutional overlaps and misunderstandings regarding the role of the two ministries in REDD+, some of which continue until today. The role of MINEP expanded in 2012 to recognize their role of sustainable development, and is now known as the MINEPDED.
The Environmental Monitoring and Evaluation cell (Cellule de Monitoring et Suivi Ecologique) is charged with all national actions and measures regarding climate change mitigation and is thus the institution responsible for REDD+. This cell is where the REDD+ and UNFCCC Focal Points are based and where the REDD+ Technical Secretariat will be housed. The Minister of MINEPDED is the head of the REDD Steering Committee, which brings together a range of Ministries and stakeholders to make key decisions regarding REDD+.
