Indigenous Peoples' Alliance of the Archipelago
The Indigenous People's Alliance of the Archipelago (AMAN) is a national alliance of indigenous peoples. As of November 2012, the organisation comprised of 1,163 indigenous communities throughout Indonesia. The alliance aims to promote the rights and sovereignty of indigenous peoples across Indonesia.
The main working areas of the alliance are: i) indigenous organisation, networking and the development of customary institutions; ii) legal defense and advocacy of indigenous rights; iii) strengthening customary-based economic systems; iv) strengthening the rights of indigenous women; and, v) promoting the education of indigenous youth.
