Summary

The Forestry Administration (FA) is a government authority under the Mininstry of Agriculture Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF) in charge of managing forests and forest resources according to the National Forestry Sector Policy and the Forestry Law. The Forestry Administration has a unique management and organisation structure for the whole country in vertical line, which divided into central, inspectorate, cantonment, division, and triage forestry administration levels. The FA is responsible for managing the Permanent Forest Estate (Permanent Forest Reserves and Private Forests) and for implementing the National Forest Programme (NFP), including community forestry. Additional responsibilities include: i) studying and collecting data on all state forests; ii) conducting assessments of national forest carbon stocks; iii) arranging for forest carbon trades and forest services to increase revenue for effective forest operations and development (under 2008 Sub-decree no. 188); iv) and arranging for the sale of carbon credits from the Oddar Meanchey REDD+ project ( 2008 Sar.CHor.Nor. 699).

According to the National Forestry Sector Policy and the Forestry Law, the main objective of the FA is to ensure the sustainable management of forests in the country. This is achieved through issue regulation, promotion of reforestation, conducting and funding research, conserving flora and fauna, investigating and suppressing various forms of forest destruction, and promoting public education to demonstrate the importance of managing and protecting forests.
